the Spiritual "Walk" Ephesians 4-6

6/3/10

Time Spent: 30 min

Main Idea: Paul exhorts believers to walk in holiness, love, light, and in wisdom.

What I Learned about God: the Christian that is filled to the brim with God's immeasurable riches is the one that walks in this manner.

Summary: "Walking" in the NT is used to depict one's life with Christ. It is a frequent verb used by Paul to denote that idea. The spiritual "walk" is characterized by the top 4 ideas (holiness, love, light, wisdom) and should envelope the lives of believers. Paul goes on to exhorts believers in Ephesus to renew this idea in their minds as he shares with them how to live a life that is worthy of the gospel. He explicates each of these major sections with exhortations on how their lives should be structured, how to obey their parents, how to deal with one another, etc. with practical ways in which the believers should be exercising love for one another.

Application: My "walk" with God does not seem to be as all-inclusive as to the way that Paul describes it. I deem my walk with God based upon the sins that I commit, one in particular. I gauge my walk with Him based upon the level of my sins and to the extent of my day that I spend with Him. However, this is not the way which Paul had guided the people of Ephesus to follow. Paul exhorts people that their are several bases to "walk" with God, and holiness is just one of them. I wonder what God would say to me for "wisdom", I know God gives out what to do for husband wives, childrens-parents, and slaves-masters...but what of the student? Better yet, what of the pastor? I think I need to meditate what God would want my life to look like in walking with wisdom. I had gone onto search for wisdom through the Proverbs, yet was unable to find the gem of my search because I drifted away from the fear of the Lord, the beginning of wisdom. In any sense, walking in wisdom first starts with a devotion to God and His Word.
