Main Idea: Flee Sexual Immorality
What I learned about God: God made us to worship Him and nothing else
Summary: This is Paul's first letter to the church in Corinth and this is talking about how everything in creation all has one purpose. The first example of how food and the stomach are made for each other. The stomach is made so that food is digested and food was made so that the stomach would nourish the body. He then comes to the example in how our bodies were made so that we use our bodies to worship God. He then goes onto the fact that we cannot commit sexual immorality because it is not the duty of the body. When we commit sexual immorality, we give to God through our bodies. Paul quotes Jesus in that when two fleshes combine, they become one and how they will never separate. Paul explains that we must flee sexual immorality and become one with the Spirit so that we may use our bodies for worship Him. We worship Him with our bodies because our bodies themselves are also temples for the Holy Spirit. He then concludes with how it is not our bodies to use in our own ways because Jesus paid the price for us to use our bodies, so in return we must glorify Him through our bodies.
Application: This being a touchy subject in the church, sexual immorality is one of the sins that can only grow and continue to hurt more people. Jesus, having died on the cross and paying the price of these bodies with His blood, it wouldn't be right if we did whatever we liked. Having being born as a human, we are naturally sinners, and now as saints we are persuaded in this world to see that following what you want to do is okay. We must reject all things that do not give glory to God and we must just follow Him. In my own life, I have been struggling with it either being cursing, or being obnoxious or even to the sensitive subject of pornography. Being a man, mine and all other man's sexual temptations must run the deepest because we are so weak and how we must deal wiht this is through prayer and memory verses and just strong accountability. I feel through KCM and other ways of being more accountable has just been such a blessing in that they keep me accountable and when ever I feel that I am being tempted, I can also talk to my small group leader and other brothers and that we may be able to pray for it together. I must just remember that in whatever I do, my body was paid through Jesus' sacrifice and His blood and so that I may not through away my body and combine it with a prostitute, but instead I must join the Spirit and just allow Him to rule my heart throughout my life no matter how hard the road is.
