Proverbs 3:5-6 Making a straight path

4/11/10

Time Spent:

Main Idea: The one that clings to wisdom will continue to see his/her morality become more mature as the days goes by

What I learn about God: Person belief in the knowledge of God and reliance upon Him, will make a person's path straight.

Summary: This Proverb deals with the idea of growing in morality. It does not come from any gusto or measure that is welled up in a person, but rather is through the reliance and trust in God. Morally "straight" talks about a progression in growth, namely in morality here. This is continuing the idea that wisdom is not just a theoretical notion, but that it is one when seeked and received, will change the course of a man's life. God's wisdom becomes a means of making a believer more like Him.

Application: Kicking the habit of sin is a struggle for life on earth. Somehow, I think churches and teachers are failing to understand that to deal with the "sin" is to just deal with the matter on a surface level. What one truly needs to work on is the heart and the mind. 5 steps to do this or 3 levels of blah blah have done good to no one; it is only through the change of the heart is one able to grow in his morality. I have several bouts with sin, especially on Monday morning and I thought maybe it's linked to the idea that I don't do QT on Sundays. I'm exhausted and tired and since I don't do it, I think to myself, "Charlie, if you only did QT this never would've happened". It is foolish of me to rely on an exterior source to determine my level of morality, since it is only through the trusting and reliance of my heart to the Lordthat will really fix the issue. Tomorrow I plan on spending some time in prayer and ask God what the heart motive is for my sin. Soli deo gloria
