4/23/10: 2 Peter 1:4-15

Main Idea: We must be fruitful for God

What I Learned About God: God has given us a gift in which we must give unto others

Summary: In 2 Peter, he is showing the churches through this letter that God has given us a gift. This gift in which we escape this world of sin so that we can be a part of eternal life with Jesus. With each attribute that we must learn to use, we must also compliment it with things like love, steadfastness, and self-control. If we have these qualities, we then exemplify the Word of God in our lives, but if we don't incorporate these qualities, we are ineffective in sharing God's Word with others. If we do not remember His love and sacrifice we become nearsighted and forget of what Jesus has pulled us from. Peter just reminds the church that through practice of these qualitites, we can never fail and we will be gladly accepted into the kingdom of Heaven. Peter affirms these facts in which he says that we should all be reminded of these things frequently so that we will never forget this lesson in our life.

Application: In my life, I have been always tempted to go drinking and party and disregard my moral and spiritual values. Knowing these sins, I still fall into temptation and have committed sexual immorality and debauchery all with the title of being a "good church boy". Having been deemed that nickname, I have always been offended by that because as they themselves attend church every Sunday, I am pointed out because of my practice of my values that I learn in church. When I do fall, it does so much more damage on their view of a "good church person" because my actions do not reflect what I learn and then they deem me a hypocrite because I go to church and I go to parties. After seeing this passage and reading it, I noticed just how much more actions do speak louder than words in my life. Especially being deemed the "good church boy" my nickname carries the supposed reflection of who I am representing which is God. My life being a representation of God should be so much more than what I am doing right now because without Him we would never have the chance of eternal life. We must always remember His sacrifice and from what we came from.
