1 Pet 5:6-7 Humility in Being Care-free

5/18/10

Time Spent: 5 min

Main Idea: One is humble in the midst of suffering when he is carefree

What I Learned about God: God's mighty hand delivers us from both present and future trials.

Summary: Peter writes to the church the importance of humility in the midst of suffering. Now "humility" does not seem like a common cure for those that are suffering, but those that put their hope on God and His deliverance are genuinely humble people. They acknowledge that they are powerless and God is powerful and mighty to save. Furthermore, the truly "humble" people in this passage are carefree! They cast all their anxieties upon God, leading them not to worry but to live a truly humble life. This is perplexing to know because this is an aspect of humility that many of us do not talk about.

Application: This freaking sermon took me way too long to do and to memorize. I am so tired and drained from trying to memorize this sermon for my class that I'm about to give up hope : (. However, I know that it's during these times God wants to cast my cares upon Him because He cares for me. I need to recognize my need for God by doing just that. This sermon is stressing me out something fierce, so I need to make sure I go and pray before I sleep to really apply this verse in my soul before I go out and preach this sermon. I want to be a pastor that lives out the sermons that he preaches. I know that I'm not perfect and have my limitations, but I really want to do it from this one. God, help me to know the humility of being carefree for tmrw!
