5/20/10: 1 Peter 2:21-25

Time Spent: 15 mins

Main Idea: Submit to Authority

What I learned about God: He Shepherds the lost

Summary: This is Peter's first letter to the churches and he speaks about submission to God's authority. Jesus, calls us because we were t he witnesses to His love, in that we know our savior was found innocent but still was given the death penalty on the cross. Even though He was never found lying nor guilty, He faced the price that we had to pay. He never spoke badly to the people torturing Him in that He was obedient to the Father's will even to the point of death on the cross. It then explains how we are the roaming sheep and He is the one that rounds us up and shepherds us. We must not be the ones to judge, we are the ones who must be submissive to the one that judges.

Application: In missions training, they had this sermon in which we had to listen too. This sermon by Bob Sjogren started off with the definition of idolatry. Was Jesus idolizing His love for us over the Father's commands. This is completely wrong in that through the Father's commands, Jesus loved us. He did not follow His love for us to the cross, but rather the Father's command to the point of death. In my life, having heard that I feel that I should listen to every pastor and teacher that I know. Sometimes I know what to do, and yet I don't do it because of my human nature of wanting to sin. It destroys my life in which I know the Father's great sacrifice for me and yet I still act as if it never happened. In school, I am so lazy to the point in which I don't do easy work because I feel it is unnecessary. I need to follow the advice of what my family, friends, and mentor's give me. Most importantly, I must follow the Father's command in order to live in righteousness through His sacrifice in Jesus.
