Main Idea: The Word is flesh
What I learned about God: God became flesh for the sake of us
Summary: This is the beginning of the Gospel of John. John explains how God is the word and how the word was with God in the beginning. This shows that God was the only Creator and He was never created. It then explains how the life of God is the light of men and how the light of men will never be extinguished or overcome by the darkness.
Application: When I read this passage, it just gave me a visual image of how the darkness in verse 5 must the sin of the world and how Jesus' life would never be overcome by it. This just truly gives me the faith to just push on because through Jesus, we will never be overcome by the darkness. We will never be overcome for when we have Jesus in our lives we should fear no one but God. In my life, when I struggle with temptation and I fall, I feel so ashamed of myself but this verse just reminds me to keep my head up because in all of the sin that we commit in a day, at the end of that day, God still reigns supreme in all of us.
