Time Spent: 17 min
Main Idea: God's Purpose in Christ - the central theme is the divine purpose and plan of God in bringing redemption to his people and the practical outworking of that purpose in the life of the believer
Summary: The letter is said to be Paul's quintissensial letter concisely summarizing the essence of Paul's faith and theology. One of the richest sections in this letter is Paul's statement of God's sovereign choice of election and purpose in the believer's life. The letter is divided into three sections; the first three emphasizing doctrine and God's divine purpose in CHrist and believer's position in Christ while the final three chapters speak practically concerning how believers ought to live in light of their position in Christ.
Application: How do I preach on election to junior high students? Does the Bible discredit women's roles in Ephesians 5? How do I preach that? When I decided to preach on the book of Ephesians, I did it somewhat selfishly because I myself have never gone into a deep study of this book. However, I feel probed into thinking how I would share these truths with a junior high student. I need a lot of prayer and wisdom to share these somewhat complex truths in its simplist form in order for it to be effective. Not only that, I realize that I cannot do QTs from this letter if I think about what I'm going to dish out to students. I need to remember that this is QT between me and God. Today, I could not come away with anything because I was bogged down with these questions. Maybe a later study and prayer time beforehand will weigh down my nerves and allow God to communicate His truth towards me
