5/18/10: John 15:18-27

Time: 20 mins

Main Idea: Hatred of the World

What I learned about God: God took us like Him and made us not of this world

Summary: This is Jesus speaking in the Gospel of John and He s speaking how we are to be hated in this world because we are like Him. Being like Jesus makes us not a part of this world and therefore it makes us different. The passage then goes onto speak about how when we are representing our God, when we are hated, He is hated through us and therefore the Father is hated through Him. Then Jesus explains how we are hated because of Him with no reason. It truly kills God in that they only hate Him for acting out of love for them. In doing something to make them not a part of the world, they hate Him.

Application: In a message from the UCLA KCM Pastor Woogie, he explained how when something foreign enters the body, we cannot cope with it and we can't figure out how to deal with it. In my life, as a new creation of God, I am not part of the world and therefore I don't need to have the same morals or same views in which the world has but instead I must follow God's example for He is the one that took me from the world and therefore I should follow Him. Taking myself out of this world is impossible without Jesus, therefore I need to follow His example and follow His footsteps in life. To take away the sins of the world for us, the only thing left in life is pure love of God. No matter what the world throws at me, God's love is always there to catch me and is able to help me endure these obstacles in life. As I continue to live not of the world, I must continue to live in God's light.
