5/2/10
Time Spent: 11 min
Main Idea: The man plans, but the Lord guides
What I Learned about God: God is in control of everything
Summary: The omniscient and omnipotent God is the director and guider of all of our steps. This proverbs is approaching life in two different spheres, man and God. Man may view "planning" as to set one's future course, but ultimately it is God who will let it be or not so in the other sphere. God is the one that will act and move according to his good pleasure. Thus, planning may be fruitful and wise, but the great understanding is to know that God is the one that will be directing his steps.
Application: This is a theme verse which I love to apply towards ministry. That we cannot partition a time when students will meet God; but they will understand God in a variety of unscheduled, unprogrammed ways. It could be through praise, sermon (hopefully!), small group or could be even littler things we may take for granite; interactions amongst peers, watching people serve, an encouraging word, etc. God is the one in charge of planning the ministry and leading it to the way in which it will glorify Him the most. Thus, I should stop worrying so much about ministry and the tough decisions that I have to make on Sundays. Instead, knowing this verse gives me great power to know that faithfulness to the Lord doesn't always mean flashy programs and activities, but will lead towards a pursuit of God. We cannot plan for God to work or for revival to fall upon us, so we as a ministry must stay rooted in prayer. Tonight I will pray for the two ministries and that God would bless the course of them.
