Main Idea: Christ's example of Humility
What I learned about God: Jesus came to serve, not to be served
Summary: This is Paul's letter to the church of Philippi and it is titled Christ's example of humility. The passage goes from how we must not be selfish and thinking of ourselves but we should be the one to think of others before ourselves. Paul gives the example of Jesus dying on the cross for us and how He was obedient to the Father all the way until death. He reflects that even in His own majesty, Jesus denied Himself the sovereignty that He had because He needed to sacrifice Himself for the sake of us.
Application: In this way, in my life I need to learn not to be selfish in my own life. As the only son in 2 generations, I have always been pampered and never taught to care about others. In my recent years, I have seen the outcome of that type of breeding that my parents had given me and seen that I have become a selfish person in that when I help someone, I feel it is their need to give me back a service or whatever the prize. In my life, I must purge myself of what I have learned from my family and mankind and just focus upon what God has taught me through His Word. I need to be able to deny myself and just make myself the one to submit to myself and others so that others may gain through me. This is how I must act in order to be more Christ-like throughout my life.
