Time Spent: 15 min
Main Idea: The sluggard is lazy which leads to being self-centered.
What I Learned about God: God favors the righteous who are generous
Summary: The characteristic of a sluggard has been for his slack hands and his refusal to work. This verse tells us something new about the sluggard: he's selfish. One would naturally associate a lazy person with being selfish. The verse goes on to elaborate the hedonistic tendencies of the sluggard. Although he may be lacking in zeal, when he does work, it is for selfish gain. The way of the righteous is put against this picture of the sluggard and shows that he is righteous and does not hold back his gifts. Righteousness is usually associated with upright living, but he is associated with being generous and giving.
Application: The Bible seems to give a holistic summary of the sluggard. I need to make sure that I am keeping myself away from his tendencies, which includes more than laziness. In order to do that, I must look at the picture and grace of Jesus Christ. His days were filled with ministry and expectations which He did not retreat away from. He met those head-on through prayer and power. I hope to accomplish ministry in the way that Jesus did. Defined not by having slack hands, but rather one in which can be characterized by prayer and power. I will pray tonight for my ministries to apply this QT
